This change only affects patients covered under Humana Medicare Advantage Plans and Humana Medicaid (Healthy Horizons).
Patients with Humana Military (Tricare) are not affected.
Patients whose primary coverage is Original Medicare (e.g. Medicare of Virginia) with Humana as a secondary insurer are not affected
Due to a legal decision, Achilles Foot and Ankle Center will no longer accept or bill Humana Medicare Advantage or Medicaid plans (ChoiceCare and Healthy Horizons) after August 6
We will not submit claims to Humana Medicare Advantage or Humana Medicaid.
We will not receive further payments from these plans.
Patients with these plans will need to seek care elsewhere or pay out-of-pocket if their Humana plan offers out-of-network benefits.
Humana Military (Tricare): No change—you can continue care as before.
Original Medicare as Primary, Humana as Secondary: No change—you will continue to be seen under current billing arrangements.
Humana Medicare Advantage Plan or Humana Medicaid (Healthy Horizons):
Your appointments will be canceled.
Any outstanding balances from these plans will be adjusted off.
We will notify you via email, phone, and text about your options moving forward.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash payments for these plans, per Medicare guidelines.
Consider switching to a different provider that accepts your Humana plan.
For Medicare Advantage patients, you
may be eligible to enroll in a different plan during open enrollment in 2026.
If you have Humana Medicaid, we recommend reaching out to your case manager to explore alternative Medicaid options such as:
Anthem HealthKeepers,
Sentara Medicaid,
UHC Community Care.
We apologize for any inconvenience and are committed to helping you find a smooth alternative. Please contact our office if you have questions or would like assistance exploring other coverage options.
