Hyprocure®

Hyprocure®

Our feet and ankles hold us up—literally. They also move us around and allow us to turn, jump, run, walk, kick, and more. So what happens when they can no longer support us? Do we have to stop doing the activities we love? Fortunately, with the Hyprocure® procedure, the answer to that is no.

WHAT IS HYPROCURE®?

Hyprocure® is a uniquely designed titanium stent that can be used to stabilize ankles while still allowing for normal motion. Placed between the ankle and heel bone, the stent is pushed into place—no screws are necessary. Its anatomical shape allows for it to slide right into its natural corrective position and is held there by the surrounding tissues that attach during the healing process. This not only provides stability, but also corrects imbalances and alignment.

Those suffering from talotarsal dislocation can benefit most from Hyprocure®. The condition occurs when the ankle bone, or talus, becomes displaced from its natural position. This, in turn, affects the foot’s ability to support and distribute weight and motion evenly. As a result, the hind-foot, heel, and ankle collapse, twisting into an unnatural position and shape and creating imbalance with devastating effects throughout the body. Hyprocure® corrects the root of the problem, as well as the secondary conditions that often result from the deformity. These include heel pain like plantar fasciitis, flat feet, knee painhip pain, back pain, overpronation, and more.

It is important to note that candidates for this procedure must have what’s called a flexible deformity in that the ankle has not become rigid. This is the case for the vast majority of people with talotarsal dislocation. However, the odds of the deformity being flexible greatly decreases as the condition goes untreated. Secondary symptoms will only become more problematic, as well, so the Hyprocure® procedure should be considered as early as possible.

After the procedure, you can expect some swelling and bruising. Anti-inflammatory medication can help with any pain you may experience. Waking will take some getting used to as your foot adapts to its corrected position. You may feel as though you are walking on the outside of your foot—this is normal and only temporary. Most patients are walking normally in just a couple of weeks, although it is important to continue being gentle on the foot.

It’s also extremely important to buy new shoes. Do not go back to your old shoes worn with your faulty foot structure—this is crucial to recovery.

Activity levels can be gradually increased after four to six weeks. Although the bones, ligaments, and tendons in your foot and throughout your body will not fully adapt and recover for several more months, over this period of time you will start noticing relief from the many secondary symptoms and conditions brought on by the deformity. Back, knee, heel, and hip pain will decrease, and as they do, you will enjoy a renewed quality of life. After a year, you will be fully recovered.
